Friday morning I went for a 130-minute bike ride before heading to the burbs with Matt for possibly the most domestic day we’ve ever had together. We got this paint from Home Depot for our living room/bedroom accent walls. We picked up more cubes and a nightstand from IKEA, where the price is always right. And then we stopped at Crate & Barrel for a pizza stone and mortar/pestle. We ended the day with a summer feast including my dad’s ribs with homemade special BBQ sauce.
Saturday morning I got up early to go for an hourlong run through Waterfall Glen. Then my mom, sisters and I went for quadruple mani/pedis at the local nail salon to get ready for (cousin’s) WEDDING TIME! As you can see, Wrobels + boyfriends know how to wedding (yes, I’m using it as a verb). So much fun. So many drinks. So much dancing, where all eyes were on Matt, per usual. (All I will say is boyfrand’s got moves.) Wedding #1 of 5 gets an A+.
Sunday’s official title was A Meeting of the Sisters, where my Jackie and Vicki met Matt’s Taylor. We decided to introduce them in the most sophisticated of ways, with The Office power hour (yes, it’s 60 1-minute clips of The Office), followed by Kings/Circle of Death/whatever your neck of the woods calls it. By this point everyone was in love and life was grand, so we decided to introduce more chaos into the mix by meeting up with my bests - Jazz! Sra! Lauren! I never get to see these fools, as they live in Denver, Columbus and Lemont (which might as well be out of state) so this was long overdue. We sipped some dranks at Benchmark before moving onto Adobo Grill, where a few more fools joined in. (Seriously, a party of 11. I haven’t had this many friends since college.) At this point my voice completely evacuated my body, but I pushed on to hangtime with Matt’s friends at Schoolyard Tavern. I called it a night early on account of exhaustion and not wanting another ounce of alcohol to enter my body.
Monday morning Matt, Taylor and I went for brunch at Hash House a Go Go, where my voice still evaded me. After brunch I had a nice, long breakdown due to newfound sickness/constant illness/training stress. (Although now that I’ve typed out everything I did this weekend, it’s kind of a miracle I didn’t break down sooner.) Thankfully Matt is the best and talked me down from the ledge. Breathe in, we went grocery shopping. Breathe out, I packed for my Grand Canyon trip (which I failed to be excited about all day yesterday, HI BREAKING POINT!). I spent the rest of the day making food for the week: bacon and chicken hash for lunches, chicken and feta orzo for dinners, and quinoa with strawberries, bananas and yogurt for breakfasts. We rounded the weekend out by watching A Map for Saturday, a documentary about backpackers traveling the world long-term. That naturally got our wheels spinning and dreaming and I’m just so glad I get to go through life with this fellow adventurer who wants to explore and experience every single thing and he wants to do it with me.
TL;DR: I felt a lot of feelings this weekend.
