Half Marathon: A Review
Well you guys, I made it. 13.1 miles and soon to be a few toenails less (sorry if that’s TMI), I’m on the other side of my second half marathon.  First, the good: 2012 half marathon time: 1:52:17, ~8:33 min/mile. Trained: 1x/week. 2008 half marathon time: 1:56:36, ~8:53 min/mile. Trained: 4-5x/week. So that’s cool. Now, the bad: I hit my wall(s) on miles 8 and 11. Here are...

My first Tumblr post
“12TH FEBRUARY 2011 SURPRISE! I guess I tumbl(e?) now. It’d be a lot easier to come up with inspirational things to say if I wasn’t hungover and trying to prevent my stomach from falling out my uterus. Let’s hope this blog is more consistent than my sex life. Go Domino’s or go home.” As you can see, I’ve grown a lot in 14 months. Shout out to Matt for the only change.

Ali asked me to be her maid of honor a year or two ago (shout out to her sisters for transitioning to the matron roles and leaving a spot open for me). Since then, she has made periodic requests (future Bridezilla, anyone?) Today’s request was to end my speech with a mic drop (you can’t make this shit up). My first thought was, “What the f am I going to say that could possibly...

Friday is for:
a) having lots of work to do but doing none of it, b) spending the morning on the phone with doctor’s office, lab, and insurance providers, (#fuckyoustoptryingtotakeallmymoneyihavenone) c) getting excited to leave work early and head to Champaign for our half marathon tomorrow morning! (Mostly excited to be rid of the guilt of not training, but that still counts, right?), or d) all of the...

Yesterday I learned Chicago is the biggest dogfighting AND dognapping city in the country. C’mon you guys. :( This morning I received an email invitation to join the “North Suburban Flash Mob”. This is a group, not a onetime event. :) Good morning!

Walking downtown yesterday, I overheard a man on the phone use all of the following in a span of 7 seconds: “Bro”  “I’m a grown ass man”  “Threw me in jail”  Dear single friends, sorry I didn’t think to stop and ask for his number.

In which Matt argues Mickey Mouse is creepy while...
Matt: Imagine if Mickey just walked into the room right now. How creepy would that be?
Steph: ...I'd be creeped out if anyone walked into the room right now.
Matt: Okay. [Pause for thinking] But let's say you're just out in public and there's Mickey, standing and staring off into the distance. Then all of a sudden he turns and starts running at you as fast as he can.
Steph: How do you not think these things are generally alarming?
Matt: I would rather be charged by a random large man than by Mickey Mouse.

I was watching Say Yes to the Dress with my best friend yesterday (moment to judge granted) and discovered they have a plus size edition to the show entitled: :: wait for it :: Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss. The person who created this title should be fired. From life.

Group text regarding my mom's diagnosis
Sister: My friend has polycystic ovarian syndrome so she used to get ovarian cysts all the time and her doctor just put her on birth control to control it and she's fine
Me: My friend said both her sisters and mom have had them several times and it was totally fine
Grandma: Not to change the subject or anything but did anyone watch NYC 22? Was it any good?
+1 to Grandma for being OUT OF HER FREAKING MIND.

Since the last post got a little downer-y and my natural defense mechanism is to hide behind humor, below is a real photo of me in 7th grade. A moment of silence for the tragedy that is my forehead. I don’t know where the fuck I came up with those bangs. The rose I’m holding is from my first “boyfriend”. That’s right, I somehow managed to lock a man down while...

To good health
My mom told me yesterday she’d been having severe abdominal pain for 24 hours and was going to see her doctor about it. Twenty minutes after her appointment, she called my dad to tell him she was on her way to the hospital. Her doctor didn’t feel comfortable sending her home without getting a CT scan to see what was going on, but several doctors suspected it was appendicitis. After...

Wednesday night stream of consciousness
I got home from book club at 10:46 last night, kicked my shoes off and realized my bedroom closet light was on. First thought: “Oops, I left the light on all day.” Second thought: “Or did I?” Third thought: “If there’s an intruder, he’s hiding in the shower.” (Because in my mind, the bad guy has no other hiding place.) Fourth thought: “I...

whatyousaybabyk asked: As a fellow Dorito enthusiast. I wonder... You have the nacho cheese in your picture- but is "pass the ranch" in reference to Cool Ranch? If your apartment is on fire, which Dorito's bag would you grab? If you move to London you have to eat chips flavored like Ketchup or Prawns. How would you feel about that?
